NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR
In my first four months as Executive Director, I’ve come to appreciate that we are ALL members of our Methow Valley Community Center. The multitude of classes, events and groups that pass through these doors every week are a testament to how essential this place is for the well-being of our rural community.
A thriving community ecosystem includes reliable access to stable housing, food, clean air, water and connection to each other. The community center is a vital piece of that equation. I'm so grateful to the hard work and dedication of everyone who brings life to this iconic building. This year is particularly unique because we will be starting the Energy Retrofit of the building! While we are excited to have this upgrade finally underway, it means a disruption to some of our regular operating income and community use of the gym starting this summer. This means that we rely on your annual gift even more this year to ensure that this facility remains a place for ALL of us to connect, learn and find support.
THANK YOU, Sarah Thomas Executive Director (and Xavi)

*You may have noticed we are not calling your annual gift a membership this year. We decided to simplify things and just call it an annual appeal. We still provide a suggested individual and family gift level for those who like to have that.
ENERGY RETROFIT UPDATE
WHERE WE ARE
Project planning complete and Phase 1 funding
Phase 1: Retrofit of the gym, construction scheduled to begin July 1, 2025.
WHAT’S NEXT
Grants and Major Giving Efforts underway for remaining funding needs.
Provided funding is secured, Phase 2: Retrofit of the offices, will begin upon completion of Phase 1.
Strategic and financial planning to support the long-term wellness of the building and its people post-retrofit.
WHY IS THIS UPGRADE NEEDED?
For the community center and gymnasium to stay operational, particularly in extreme heat and cold, we need modernized climate control.
The 80-year-old waste-fuel boiler system, named Bertha, is deteriorating and needs to be replaced.
It will allow the Methow Valley Community Center to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and become a more energy-efficient facility.
